I made this for Louis

    About

Hat some wool left over from Louis hat. Mitts last time. so Bootees this time. Great little pattern, very easy. Knitted all in one piece. Foot knitted flat, and ankle in the round. Pattern suggests magic loop for this. Thought would give it a go as would be practice. I can't seem to get on with magic loop, although I know others love it. Managed the first 9 rows !
Possibly my cable was actually too long also my tips for such a small thing. Personally find short DPN's way faster and easier. Couldn’t get on with having to continually pull all the cable through. Perhaps need more practice. !! However if you don't want to knit in the round the top can be just knitted flat and seamed.
Managed Hat and bootees out of two balls. (only just though so would make the pom pom last to ensure enough yarn )

Great little boots the ribbing should give Louis some wriggle room 😍 magic loop and knitting in the round is a challenge with me too I try to push myself to attempt it my best attempt at magic loop was when I made a beanie I started off on straight needle then after rib I swapped to magic loop so in end I only needed to sew rib and tidy finishing yarn but it’s been a one off 😜

Thank you Maria 😊 Yes every time I try magic loop out I am optimistic, that the penny will drop and I will start to like it, but no luck so far 😂. also I find it quite a slow process with all the having to pull the needle through all the time. I’m Ok with DPN’s , think it must be all that sock knitting. 😂 Do like the circulars for jumpers etc, Great not have to sew up the seams 😊

@Jean F: I love your sock knitting 😍 can I ask Jean do you use metal or perhaps wood dpns when knitting them?

        @Maria L: Thank you Maria, 😊
I usually use the bamboo/wood DPN’s for sock knitting. I like to use the 5” (13cm) length.

I Also have one set of stronger metal ones. That are a little bit shorter. I used to find these useful for the cast on and first few rounds and then the last few rows of toe shaping. (If it’s fiddly or tight). Though don’t tend bother these days think have just made have made so many pairs !! 😂 x

Suppose in the end it’s down to personal preference, but worth trying both. My daughter likes to use metal x

@Jean F: thank you Jean this is very helpful information- I have never tried bamboo/wood dpns or straights I really need to add them to my Xmas list and think about sizes too 🥰🌲😜

Very gorgeous boots Jean. Have you tried any baby socks for him?

Thank you Vix 😊. I did actually make one baby size sock . 😂 pattern from a book borrowed from the library. Very fiddly with small amount of stitches Striped with short row heel. (Not an expert at short row heels) Heel was my down fall. Ended up with lots of tiny little holes that needed darning!!
It looked ok in the end, but I don’t think would have been very comfortable for a baby foot, I actually used sock yarn, think now not best for baby. Not attempted since. 😂😂
Though might look for pattern for toddler size for next year 🤔xx

Very cute bootees Jean. Magic loop knitting is a bit of a nemesis to me ... I can just about do it, but it frustrates me 😆 I can see why others love it though.

        Thank you Mary 😊
Yes I feel exactly the same about magic loop 😂 . I wonder if I’m missing something !
In theory It looks as if it would work well for very small tubes, like glove fingers. But don’t think I’ll be trying it again anytime in the near future 😂x

@Jean F: I feel I'm definitely missing a trick not doing it ... but I've only ever tried on tiny items and just find it too fiddly. What I need to work on is how to convert those designs to flat knitting ☺️

@Mary_B: 😊👍. It’s ideal when patterns give you both options as some these days.
Being a bit of a novice to it my self, I wonder it is easier if you get the right length tip and cable, for the job 🤔
I like the circulars for knitting in the round for sweaters etc. and sometimes do this if fronts and backs are the same up to the armhole shaping, saves on sewing up. But then I wonder should I have decreased stitches because there is no seam 🤔 😂x

@Jean F: Some interesting tips there Jean, thank you! 💖 I've taken to knitting top-down baby cardi's a kind of hybrid. I really like knitting on circular needles for these, agree about the length, if they're too long it's a faff! ☺️

Perfect way to use up the leftover Jean. 🥰 I absolutely agree with you about dpns and magic loop, especially for small stuff. I can’t get on with the pulling through either. When I made my footstool (pouffée) by any other name!) I used TWO sets of interchangeable needles on two long cables. That was fun! But it worked!! Just had to make sure to alternate the working needle otherwise you ended up with a lot of stitches on nothing! 😂😂

        Thank you Helen 😊
Yes seems such a fad pulling the cable through all the time !! Also a slow process ! Wonder
If it’s sometimes to do with the method you learn first. I learnt so long ago that I think magic loop probably didn’t exist 😂 and my Mother tended to do the first few rows for me. But don’t remember any problems once I got started. Wouldn’t be adverse to trying the two needle method, and like knitting in the round on a circular for large things like jumpers. Anything to avoid sewing up !! 😂😂 .x

Thank you Michelle 🤞Hoping they will fit, he is growing fast . There was only the one size on the pattern so if too small happy for them to go to the OP shop. Sure they will find a good home 😊 xx.

Thank you Valerie 😊. That’s what I think about my efforts with magic loop. But Whenever I try it I never seem to like it any better 😂 find it very fiddly with all the pulling through!! 😂 x
