William De Morgan used the name Gillow for many of his tiles that featured a floral design. Gillow is not a flower name, so I am not sure where it came from, but on the official De Morgan Collection website the tiles refer to a dandelion and foliage pattern. My crochet flower does not look anything like a dandelion, but I tried hard to replicate William’s painted petals in my crochet when creating this design.
This is one of my favourite motifs within the Spirit of Flora collection and I am particularly happy with how this crochet block looks when worked in an alternative sequence of yarn shades.
