Product Details
Lady of Fire is a colorwork hat that was designed to echo the Native American stories about the mountain we currently know as Mt. St. Helens - known by many names: Loowit to some, Louwala-Clough by others, or simply the “Lady of Fire”. She was originally described as a wrinkled old woman, but granted eternal life and beauty by Chief Tyee Sahale. The Chief’s sons, Klickitat and Wy’east, fell in love with the Lady of Fire. They fought terrible battles over her which made Chief Tyee Sahale angry. He smote the three lovers; but even as he punished them, he loved them. So, where each lover fell, he raised up a mighty mountain. The colors shown here represent the Lady of Fire in all her glory – snow and fiery lava. The main colorwork is repeated for times.
