Virgule Scarf

The Virgule Scarf is a striking bias-worked design in Tunisian crochet, combining simple stitches with bold, dramatic colour changes. Designed to let the yarn do the talking, this pattern uses only Tunisian Simple Stitch and Tunisian Reverse Stitch to create a beautifully textured fabric that showcases contrast and movement. Beginning at the lower corner, the scarf is worked diagonally, increasing to the desired width before decreasing back to a point for a clean, elegant finish. The bias construction enhances the flow of colour transitions, making it ideal for experimenting with contrasting shades or showcasing special yarns. The original version was worked in two colours of recycled DK yarn, but it also shines in hand-dyed yarns — I’ve made a slightly shorter version in two skeins of Aglow DK from Lottie Knits with equally beautiful results. As with many Tunisian crochet projects, blocking is essential to relax the fabric and minimise curling.
