Produktdetails
The carnation is another flower that William De Morgan used frequently in his tile designs, and we know that the artists within the Arts and
Crafts Movement were keen on using botanical symbolism within their works. Plants were often used as metaphors for virtue and vice, with the
carnation often depicted as a symbol of love. Indeed, the Greek name for carnation (dianthos) means ‘Flower of God’ and in Victorian times brides
would often include carnations or ‘pinks’ in their wedding bouquets.
I made two versions of this motif and like the way they work in my blanket layouts. You could choose to make one colourway or mix it up a
little by making opposite flowers in varying colours.
