What would a scarf that mirrors the Shape of the Wind look like? It would sweep and float. It would be open so shy breezes can peak through. It would be strong and resilient. This scarf, this Shape of the Wind, is worked in a classic lace pattern – one that has lace worked on right side rows as well as wrong side rows. However, the lace work is bounded by rows of ribbing to create a shape that flows. Like the wind, this scarf is both complex and simple, the four-row repeat is easy to memorize while developing a complex, strong pattern, emboldened by the ribbing. Enjoy. And join me in a dance with the Shape of the Wind.
Techniques used in this pattern include knit, purl, yarn over, single and double decreases. The larger needles create the open, airy lacework, while the smaller size needles are used for the ribbing to mimic the denser flow of the wind as it moves through the trees. As envisioned, this scarf is a light, summer weight accessory.
