The swirled Pumpkin hat is based on a free pattern I made a few years ago for an autumn spiralled pumpkin. It's an unusual construction for a hat, as it's first made in rows before being joined together on the edges. Then the ribbing is added afterwards.
The main part of the hat is made using only half double crochet stitches and takes advantage of the third loop to create the lovely texture.
The pattern makes up to a standard ladies size of 21 inches around, and needs around 200 meters of Caron Simply Soft, which is less than 1 skein. I've used the shade Pumpkin (very appropriately lol)
This pattern would suit an advanced beginner, or intermediate skilled crocheter
