Spike stitches create color patterns with stitch height. The different heights of the Spike Stitches in this pattern create both interesting design and texture. This basket pattern is a cousin to my smaller Spike Stitch Basket pattern, but is larger and uses the spike stitches in a slightly different way. The finished size is about 6.25" diameter by 6.75" tall.
You will need 3 colors of worsted weight yarn, about 80 yards each color. 3 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver will make several baskets.
Spike Stitches aren’t too difficult as long as you understand where exactly to put your hook. The pattern is listed as intermediate skill level because you will probably want to be comfortable with basic stitches and have some experience with creating crochet fabric before undertaking this project. Detailed instructions and photos are provided and I am always happy to answer questions.
