Ring-Tailed Lemur Hat

Ring-tailed lemurs are highly social primates from the forests of southwestern Madagascar. In the wild they live in large troops of up to 30 individuals, where all females are dominant over males. Their distinct & easily recognizable markings have made them a popular addition to movies, commercials & in zoos throughout the world. This hat was designed to honor this endangered species.

The basic hat is a circular knit worsted weight watch cap with an additional ringed tail. (I used a Magic Loop needle and Red Heart Super Saver® yarn for the samples.) Separate instructions for 5 hat sizes are included, from Child 3-10 to XL-Adult

The embroidered face is done with duplicate stitch & the pattern assumes a knowledge of this technique. Fair Isle (knitting with 2 or more colors across a round) & intarsia (knitting with separate color blocks) will not work because the embroidery includes half stitches. 8mm glass beads or buttons make the eyes stand out. It’s a unique and fun hat for all ages.
