My father’s family came, in a large part, from Wales. Many settled in Williamstown, near Melbourne in Australia, where the families married other settlers, many also Welsh.
Though, it was my Latvian weaving teacher at Melbourne College of Textiles that introduced me to the beauty and complexity of patterned weaving. It’s likely true, though, that our love of fabric is because of its own innate beauty and not due to our dna in any case. Perhaps, who can really say?
This design is inspired by a Welsh woven cape that hangs in my room and so I have called it for the place from which my family launched to come here to Australia. The Pembrokeshire fingerless gloves.
To make a smaller pair of Pembrokeshire Fingerless Gloves, use a 4 ply fingering weight and finer needles, or, just finer needles and 5 ply.
