Listen, the Snow is Falling

One sunny, 70-degree winter morning in California, I found two skeins of fluffy, ice-blue Misti Alpaca Chunky in the 50% off sale bin of a local yarn store and knew they had to come home with me. I have a sentimental attachment to Misti Alpaca Chunky, the yarn that first really got me into knitting; so soft, the sheer pleasure of working with it outweighed the tedium and difficulty of ever-so-slowly struggling through my first scarf.

A few weeks later, I was knitting up that yarn in a climate that couldn't be more different: sitting on a train from Montreal to Québec City, knitting up an infinity scarf, and watching the snow fall outside the windows as we raced through the night. The traditional Frost Flowers pattern I've used here works up into fluffy, sculptural snowdrifts of lace when worked on large needles--while the lace pattern is worked on every row and does take a fair bit of
concentration to follow, the large gauge and lack of shaping make this a quick, satisfying project
