Those variegated yarns on the shelf always get me! They're delightful to look at, easy to care for, and perfect for kids, but I've always had a hard time finding a pattern to showcase them...until I designed this blanket! The name came after the blanket was assembled, as the pattern of variegated yarn looks somewhat like the hyperspace effect from various sci-fi movies.
This pattern is quite modular, so it’s a great alternative to socks as a summer project. It works great in any variegated or self-striping yarn. You might also try the pattern as a stashbuster. Due to the modular nature, it would be a great design to work up in fingering weight.
Yarn:
- 800-1500 yards of main color (MC) (shown in Red Heart Super Saver Multi “Primary”) with 90% for the triangles and 10% for the border edging
- 290-370 yards of contrast color (CC) (shown in Red Heart Super Saver Solid “Dark Orchid”) with 30% for seaming and 70% for the border
