A grampus is a dolphin or orca, an aquatic mammal large enough to roil the water around it with air bubbles and wavelets. Do the hat in blues and greens for a water effect or try reds and pinks for a more romantic look.
To simplify things the hat is knit using a single size of needle. The samples used approximately 200 yds (137 m) of a background color and 100 yds (91 m) of a contrast color. I usually go heavy with the stitch markers, 20 on this design, but they are optional.
The pattern includes both charts and full written instructions.
