So here's the story with this pattern. I bought this yarn to try and enter a pattern into Berroco's sock design contest last month but I ran out of time and then got completely side-tracked with my [Irate Squirrel Sock][2] idea. I thought and thought about this yarn, the problems with it (the lack of stretch due to its alpaca and nylon content, and it's lack of stitch definition - not to mention its complete inability to photograph well), and I decided texture with some give was the way to go.

I had seen a stitch pattern similar to this in a book but the one in the book was way too complicated for a sock (it involved lots of cabling and brioche stitch), so I modeled my own based on the same idea. The result is a twisted rib that trails its way down the sock with patches of ribbing in between for a bit extra give. It is, of course, a top-down pattern and is pretty
