Alpine st gives an amazing texture – just the name of it makes me drift back to happy days exploring the Lake District (hence the name Buttermere Beanie).
It’s worked from the bottom up, and can be made in 3 styles: fitted, slouchy and messy bun. The hat and brim are worked in one piece for added durability – plus, you’ll have fewer ends to weave in!
The hat is made-to-measure, but I’ve included a size / measurements chart below for those who don’t have the ability to actually take measurements. You’ll need to meet gauge to get the height right since it’s worked in sections.
It’s worked in closed rnds without turning so you shouldn’t need to use st markers. The starting ch does not count as a st so the 1st st is made in the same st as the ch, and rnds are closed with a slst to the top of the 1st st is made in the same st as the ch, and rnds are closed with a slst to the top of the 1st st in the rnd.
You'll find a photo tutorial & st guide to help with unfamiliar sts / techniques.
