Beorn is a Northman, a Shape-shifter, Skinchanger, and the last of his kind. He has the ability to change his form between that of large man and large bear. He was held in captivity (as were most of his kind), enslaved by Azog The Defiler, escaped, and continues to wear a chain on his wrist as a reminder of that time.
The construction for this hat is simple: knit the chain cable and join the two ends, then pick up stitches for the crown. It is a slightly more complex cable than a simple crossover.
Finished Size: 21” circumference, stretches to approximately 23”
Yarn: Cascade 220 100% wool, 220yd/100g
Needles: 16” circular needle and set of 5 double-pointed needles or your preferred method for knitting in the round; size 6 US (4.0 mm) or size to obtain gauge
Gauge: 20 stitches/16 rows (One repeat of chain cable) = 3.5 inches by 3 inches, unblocked.[20 stitches/24 rows stockinette in the round/4”]
