4x4 is fun to make and it's fast, too. 4x4 is a big, helmet-like beanie crocheted in super bulky yarn. The hat has a distinctive, sculptural look and features wide ribs created by post stitches and finished with a head-hugging welt edging.
It's worked from the top down in joined rounds.
Skill level is intermediate for post stitches.
I especially love 4x4 in tweedy-looking yarn mixes of two or more strands of yarn held together. A yarn mix can be used if it meets the pattern stitch gauge. Yarn-mix sample hat is crocheted in Vanna’s Choice in Eggplant, Lion Brand Fishermen’s Wool in Brown Heather and Plymouth Gina in Color 0001, with one strand of each yarn equal to the super bulky weight yardage.
