Another good design from Frogginette. I love the double breasted look. The waffle weave band runs right up and over the hood. In the pattern instructions, the designer says that the waffle weave stitch is not difficult to do, but it is difficult to recover if you make a mistake. I would state this more strongly. It is darn near impossible to recover. After frogging the band twice, I knit very, very slowly. The pattern calls for aran weight yarn. I used sport/DK weight. I used stitch counts for size 10yo, but with lighter weight yarn and smaller needles, this will fit an 18 month old.

Andere : Size 7 needles used for waffle weave band. Size 5 needles for everything else. The buttons are 7/8 inches, and for this slightly larger size button, I did 2 yarn overs for each buttonhole, and this worked well.

Thank you, Nora. I was quite pleased with how it turned out. The Longwood yarn is so outstanding and works up looking so tidy. I had not even blocked it when I took the pictures.

Thank you, Michelle. "Smart" is a good word for this one. I would love to see this one on the child who eventually gets it. But that probably won't happen. Of all the piles of knitting that I have already dumped on my daughter-in-law, 2 of her friends took pictures and she forwarded those to me. One was of a 2-year-old who loved his new hat so much that he wouldn't take it off and insisted on wearing it in the house. I like to imagine the children, and think about them with every stitch. I'm lucky to have a daughter-in-law with an endless network of friends.

@Christine L: it's gorgeous and I can imagine a wee kiddie all lovely and snug in this jacket. Oh I hope you get to see more photos of the children in them, you make the most beautiful things and I'm sure the children love wearing their lovely new things. Oh that's so cute him not wanting to take his hat off. 😊

@Michelle M: I read that Melbourne is back on lockdown. Please stay safe. Aren't we lucky to have knitting to keep us busy during this upside-down time.

@Michelle M: Oh no. A sprained thumb. On top of lockdown. Well, your house will be cleaner and if you're as good a cook as you are at knitting toys, there will be some good dinners at your house.

Thank you, Donna. It did turn out fine. I have discovered that when I need to frog something, that I just need to put it down, and then frog it the next day, which somehow is less frustrating. It's a superb pattern and the waffle band is the central design element.
