When I spent watching people paragliding in Eastern Switzerland, I saw lots of butterflies. The canton of Appenzell has for „butterfly“ a special word:
Flickflauder (flɪkflaʊdeːɐ)
This inspired me to design this triangular shawl. The body of the shawl is knitted in stockinette, surrounded by a lace border with butterflies. The lace is knitted on both sides. Therefore it‘s recommended for intermediate knitters.
The lace includes gathered stitches. In the pattern is a tutorial included how to knit this specific stitch.
The instructions are charted and written.
Yardage main colour: 218 yards / 200m contrasting colour: 306 yards / 280m (I recommend to use the lighter colour as the contrasting colour, as it will be used for the lace.)
Finished measurements wingspan 53 inches/ 135cm depth 19.5 inches/ 50cm
Gauge 24 sts and 36 rows = 4“/ 10cm in stockinette stitch and blocked
