Product Details
Kalni is Latvian for mountains – an image evoked by the color and pattern work. Knit in the round for double the warmth, the Kalni scarf gently fades from one contrast color to the next then pops suddenly to create a sense of excitement and wonder that is reminiscent of a sunrise or sunset over the mountains. The Kalni colorwork is charted.
Kalni is worked in knit, purl and combines sections of stranded colorwork with sections of double moss stitch. The pattern uses 825 yds (755 m) for the main color, and 118 yds (107 m) each of five (5) contrasting colors.
Size for the scarf shown is 8” x 59” (20.5 x 150 cm) as measured with the scarf laid flat (not measured around). To change the size (length or width), add or subtract multiples of 10 stitches, use a different needle size, or change the yarn weight. If you choose to make a cowl (for example), use a provisional cast on and don’t work the garter stitch section for the beginning/end of the scarf. Then weave the ends together using the
