The gravit (scarf) is straightforward to knit requiring no steeking or shaping. Its complexity lies in the combination of pattern and colour achieving a rich and rewarding result. In the sample shown the chart is repeated 12 times but you can customise this to make the gravit the length you require.

There are lots of words and expressions that are unique to Shetland. “Geen tae da lent” is an expression meaning “gone to the length”, describing a fast-growing child. Gravit is the Shetland word for scarf.
