Product Details
Anakie is a shawl that is an exercise in exploration. It plays around with short rows to create an asymmetrical shallow shawl full of stripes, garter stitch movement and angles; a glorious interplay of solids and stripes in an unconventional manner. Knit in 8ply/DK weight yarn, Anakie knits up quickly into a snuggly easy-to-wear accessory that is both a delight to knit and wear. Anakie uses German short rows but your preferred method can easily be substituted.
Anakie is named for a tiny town on the outskirts of Geelong. I’ve always been attracted tot he play on words in the place name and have fancily imagined a town ruled by disorder and chaos (some of the scenes from Mad Max were shot there). This is not the case. Anakie is, however, derived from a local Wathaurong expression “anakie young” meaning little hill.
Construction:
This is an asymmetrical shawl worked from edge to edge using increases and decreases for the shaping. Short rows are used to create movement and shaping.
