    About

    So near yet so far!
Nearly finished this but I think it was one cable too many and ended up with Knitters Repetitive Strain Injury!
Now I've got to give myself a break from knitting but I'm lost without it!
I'll post a pic of the jumper when I've finally finished it.
    Anyone else experienced this?

PS I bought the pattern leaflet from Lovecrafts but it wouldn't come up on the search??

Oh Jane that is not good that you are in so much pain and are struggling now with your knitting. I have been reading all the comments from the ladies and how lovely that everyone is trying to help you. I think we all have the same problem love our knitting and don't realise how long we have been knitting each day because we can't wait to finish what we are making. Take care I hope you find something that helps you.😊😊

Thank you Michelle, it's already easing but I've got no confidence that knitting will not bring it back! Been machine sewing today!

Beautiful jumper, sorry to read of all your troubles, you seem to be having a right time of it too. But heaps of advice available from the ladies here, might take heed of some of it myself too. Hopefully it won’t be too long before you get to finish this lovely jumper 😊, rest up and take care 💕

It is looking lovely so far, wont be long before you can finish it.
I have really started to struggle with my hands and found like VL using circular needles but still knitting back and forth really helps. I did have to play around a little to get the right length needle tips, as that made a difference how I hold the needles, to short and i grab to tight, which was worse.

Thank you, Mary. Yes its amazing how changing the needles can change your technique isn't it? Using short 25mm circulars for socks was so...oo different as well!

Lovely sweater. Snap. But it’s because I never know when to stop🥴. Tennis and golfers elbow stopped me knitting for years😢 There are hand exercises on this site too. Break regularly, treat yourself to a warm wax hand massage. They’re lovely 😊 get well soon.

Thank you Jacquie. Glad you're back to knitting....but I hope its not years for me! :( Its that "just one more row" thing isn't it and cables get me like that!

@Jane M: it certainly is Jane! My right hand has needles and pins atm because I’m trying to do lots for a friends church fare🤦‍♀️. The exercises definitely help though 👍

Oh gosh and your nearly finished ! Yes Jane, I also got RSI from knitting (over doing it). Dreadful nuisance. Couldn't grab anything for a long time. Had to leave the knitting alone which was torture 😞. I found using lighter needles & wearing wristbands (even to bed) helpful. Try this site for hand exercises https://www.knitfreedom.com/blog/knitting-pain/

Thank you, thank you, thank you Linzi! I actually came across this site but watched the video without the sound so didn't really understand and forgot to go back! The thumb is the worst part...something about the way I manipulate each stitch off the needle! I felt it grumbling but chose to ignore it!

@Jane M: You could also try knitting using a different technique until it improves. There are 'how to' ideas online to do this. Holding your needles the same way is repetitive, which can be a problem over time, especially when you hold them too tight (me). Oh, and take lots of breaks Jane. Looking at the other ladies comments, it is a common complaint. Great to have help from fellow knitters.

@Linzi: Yes, thank you Linzi. Maybe my magic loop socks are calling me! It certainly looks as though I'm not alone in this?

Lovely jumper! I sometimes get a painful elbow but this was caused by using a circular needle to make a blanket or maybe I just knit too much 😊

Strange how our tools can make such a difference isn't it? I was desperate to finish this jumper for next weekend so I was working on it every spare moment!

Hi Paws. Maybe try a pillow under your elbow. I found this takes the strain off a bit.

Bless, Jane. I found knitting, back and forth, with circular needles less of a strain. I can't knit with straight needles anymore, feels weird, haha. Worth a try. Maybe you could sort your wool, ready for the next projects while your hand recovers.

Thank you, VL, yes I always use circulars for larger items but not used them for baby garments before? I'm going to have to change something! Maybe wood or bamboo needles might help? (Dont like them much as the stitches dont slide)
