Easily worked in less than an hour, this is a timeless pattern that is also featured as Leisure Arts #5555, and in Jan Eatons '200 Crochet Blocks', but the pattern is also available in crochet stitch dictionaries, and in Leinhauser's Block #23 in American School of Needlework #1216, 101 Crochet Squares!!
I wrote it up the way I like them :) Great for an afghan background/filler block. March, 2013:revised pdf to be more conventional and easier to follow
