Product Details
Bedford Park is an area of London considered to be the first ‘Garden Suburb’ with many of the houses designed and decorated to the Arts and Crafts Movement aesthetic. More than 350 of the buildings there are still protected by Grade II listings.
The Bedford Park Daisy was one of William De Morgan’s earliest tile designs. It features three flowers surrounded by leaves and, in larger layouts, the tile was often accompanied by a simpler leaf filled tile design. Many of the original tiles included blue flowers on a white background, so I used this colour scheme for my motifs, but you could choose to make them in any colours you like. As the final square motif in the Spirit of Flora collection, this is probably the most difficult to make. It is worth taking the time to make it relatively slowly – don’t rush through it. Making these motifs in a production line way, so that you can keep track of the work more easily and memorise parts of the pattern, is a good plan.
