Product Details

Teosinte is a native fodder grass of Mexico and Central America. With its tassel and small, hard ears, teosinte is presumed to be the wild ancestor of maize. The Harvest pattern used in this cowl reminds me of mini corn cobs growing on the stalk, which brings to mind the importance of the first gatherers who recognized the value of this wild crop and carefully nurtured it to become the important staple we now call corn. Farmers in Mexico and Central America still let the wild teosinte plants grow around the edges of their cornfields as it is believed that the teosinte makes the corn plants “stronger”.

Worked in a solid or semi-solid color, in a bulky weight yarn, the Teosinte cowl is lush and warm. It would also look warm and cozy worked in a heavy worsted or Aran weight as well. The pattern is worked over a multiple of 7 stitches so it can easily be resized by adding/subtracting stitches in multiples of 7.
