These socks are written to use 4 colors of yarn. One large skein of the main color and then 3 mini skeins.
The 3 mini skeins are used to stripe the Cuff using helix knitting. There is a picture tutorial in the pattern that explains how to do this if you haven't done.
You can work the Toe in helix knitting if you'd like as well.
