This little pattern makes for a great gift box as a reusable alternative to wrapping paper or bags – just think of it like furoshiki with a bit more structure!
I love filling it with tiny treats at Christmas time and seeing it under the tree. But you can also use it for gifting throughout the year or as a trinket box to store special treasures.
The base and lid of the box are worked much like granny squares with ch-2 sps in each corner to keep the edges more sharp, but in continuous rounds instead of joined rnds. You’ll therefore need to use st markers to keep track of your st count, and you may find it helpful to place another in each ch-2 sp in the corners to make them easy to find. The st total at the end of each rnd does not include any chs or sps.
It's worked from the base up, making the lid in the same way, and then creating the ribbon ties afterwards in a contrasting colour.
It’s a great beginner-friendly pattern with tutorials / photo guides and video links throughout t
