Product Details
Cú Chulainn is part of my Ardee Collection. This four-piece collection is inspired by the battle between Cú Chulainn and Ferdia in the Irish epic Táin Bó Cúailnge (“Cattle Raid of Cooley”). The entire collection uses super chunky yarn and Celtic motifs to depict the two warriors and the landscape. The inspiration for this pattern is the hero of Ulster; like the Cú, this piece is big, fierce and bold. Drawing on Melissa Leapman’s Cables Untangled, cables weave to depict the warrior twisting into his battle frenzy and his dreaded spear, the Gáe Bolg.
Using super chunky yarn and size US15/10mm needles, this scarf works up quickly. The first half of the scarf is a series of cable panels, followed by a distinct cable panel for the middle before working panels from the first half in reverse order to mirror the first half. Pattern is written and charted.
