Beginners can make this scarf as long as you know how to make button holes and ribbing (sc bl - single crochet in the back loop).
YARN: YOU NEED DK WEIGHT/LIGHT WORSTED WEIGHT YARN. Most types will work, check your gauge before making. Uses US terminology.
