Product Details
There's a hill just to the west of where I live. I enjoy watching the colors change as the sun sets behind it. Sometimes I stare too long and see after-images of the sun in strange places.
I used two lace weight threads held together to get the color changes in the sample - a white cotton, two multicolor rayons, and a red acrylic. Sadly, I think they're all discontinued. I'd suggest three skeins of fingering weight yarn (400 yds / 365 m each) for a cowl. If you want to do a long scarf by adding a repeat, you'll need a second skein of the main color. I'd recommend 8 stitch markers.
Gauge doesn't really matter but you might want the fabric to have some drape. The cowl is worked in garter stitch, so it won't curl and feels a bit thicker.
The pattern includes charts and row-by-row written instructions.
