Summer CAL: Motifs 3 and 4

Introducing Violet and Lilac! Welcome to our next instalment of the Color Wheel Project, our fabulous Summer CAL!
The steps in this post are written in UK crochet terminology. Download the correct terminology for you from the links in the sidebar.

For Layout 1
Small – You will need to make 4 Violet motifs and 3 Lilac motifs.
Medium- You will need to make 7 Violet motifs and 6 Lilac motifs.
Large – You will need to make 10 of each Violet and Lilac motifs.
Layout 2
You will need to make 5 Violet motifs and 7 Lilac motifs.
Layout 3
You will need to make 6 Violet motifs and 6 Lilac motifs.
Materials
- Lang Yarns Baby Cotton
- 2 balls each of Emerald, Jade, Sky, Azure, Violet and Lilac
- KnitPro Aluminum Soft-Grip Silver Crochet Hook
- Size 3.5mm
Motif 3 - Violet
Each of the first 5 rounds is in a different color, at the start of each round join your new color in the place indicated with a sl st.
Please note this pattern is written for one side of the square, it starts mid-corner and works across the side to the next corner.
Each round starts with a set of ch stitches which are the equivalent of the starting stitch, the set of chains are replaced with their equivalent stitch for subsequent sides.

Emerald
Foundation ring – Crochet 4 ch and join into a ring using a sl st.
Into the foundation ring – *crochet 2 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 htr), 2 htr, 3 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 2 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.

Jade
Join into a 3 ch corner space – *crochet 2 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 htr), 2 ch
In next 3 ch corner space – crochet 1 htr, 5 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 2 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.

Sky
Join into 5 ch corner space, *crochet 3 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 tr), 2 htr, 2 ch, 2 htr, 3 ch
Into the 5 ch corner – crochet 2 htr, 2 ch, 2 htr, 1 tr, 3 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 3 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.

Azure
Join into 3 ch corner space, *crochet 4 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 dtr), 2 dtr, 1 ch
In next 2 ch space – crochet 2 htr, 1 ch
In next 3 ch space – crochet 4 dtr, 1 ch
In next 2 ch space- crochet 2 htr, 1 ch
In next 3 ch corner space – crochet 3 dtr, 3 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 4 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.

Violet
Join into 3 ch corner space, *crochet 2 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 htr), 1 htr
In each of the next 13 gaps between sts – crochet 1 htr in each gap
Into 3 ch corner space – crochet 2 htr, 3 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 2 ch with a sl st.

Continue in Violet
Join into 3 ch corner space, *crochet 2 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 htr),
in each of the next 16 gaps between sts – crochet 1 htr in each gap
into 3 ch corner space – crochet 1 htr, 3 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 2 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.
Motif 4 - Lilac
Each of the first 5 rounds is in a different color, at the start of each round join your new color in the place indicated with a sl st.

Join to the top of the starting 2 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.

Join into any st – *crochet 1ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 dc), 1 htr, 1 tr
In next gap between the sts – crochet 1 tr, 1 htr, 1 dc, 6 ch
In next gap between the sts – crochet 1 dc, 1 htr, 1 tr,
In next gap between the sts – crochet 1 tr, 1 htr, 1 dc, 10 ch *
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 1 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.
3
Azure
Join into 10 ch corner space, *crochet 2 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 htr), 4 ch, 1 htr, 3 ch
In next 6 ch space – crochet 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc, 3 ch,
Into the 10 ch corner – crochet 1 htr, 4 ch, 1 htr, 6 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 2 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.

Violet
Join into 6 ch corner space, *crochet 2 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 htr), 2 htr, 1 ch
In next 4 ch space – crochet 2 htr, 1 ch
In next 3 ch space – crochet 2 tr, 1 ch
In next 1 ch space – crochet 2 htr, 1 ch
In next 3 ch space – crochet 2 tr, 1 ch
In next 4 ch space – crochet 2 htr, 1 ch
In next 6 ch corner space – crochet 3 htr, 2 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 2 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.

Lilac
Join into 3 ch corner space, *crochet 2 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 htr)
In each of the next 15 gaps between sts – crochet 1 htr in each gap
into 2 ch corner space – crochet 1 htr, 3 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 2 ch with a sl st.

Continuing in Lilac
Join into 3 ch corner space, *crochet 2 ch (for all 3 of the remaining sides of the square replace with 1 htr)
In each of the next 16 gaps between sts – crochet 1 htr in each gap
into 3 ch corner space – crochet 1 htr, 3 ch*
Repeat * to * 3 more times.
Join to the top of the starting 2 ch with a sl st.
Break yarn and fasten off.
