Ursula's path is a Moebius cowl with an innovative construction method: the Half Twist Helix. It is worked flat, from the outer edge towards the centre and then finished with garter stitch Kitchener grafting and a short slip stitched seam. It reworks the classic stitch Bear Tracks into a heavily textured, reversible fabric using twisted rib and garter stitch, with eyelets defining the motif shape.
Although the pattern is written as one size, it contains instructions for how to customise the length in 4" increments
I'm a mathematician and have been fascinated by Moebius strips since I was a child. Last year I started playing with strips of paper, scissors and sellotape to explore the design possibilities of a Moebius shape. I've found 3 more ways to construct a Moebius: The Half Twist Helix construction used here is perfect for bottom up stitch patterns.
