I love a crochet nativity, there is something special and child like about them. Each character is about 4 inches tall.
Tension is not vital for these characters but a smaller hook helps prevent the stuffing from showing. Also I like to add a layer of fine gravel in the base just to weight them a bit, this helps the, stand a bit more.
This pattern uses SC/DC, HDC/HTR, decreases, increase, crocheting beads and bobble stitches (tutorials available on my blog)

errata Under round 5 of the wise men there is a line that states "15 back loops, SC in both loops of remaining sts. (24)" please ignore this it is a "copy past" mishap
