PATTERN NOTES
Construction of Sugar Pine Shawl is the basic top down triangle with six increases every two rows. This makes a gentle curve along the top edge, and there is an optional plaited cable there to create a delicate braid along the top. Most of the shawl is stockinette stitch, making it the perfect pairing for a subtle tonal yarn which won’t have to compete with a busy stitch pattern. The final bind off is created with a p2tog pattern which creates a stretchy, textured finish.

When I first visited Lake Tahoe I
lucked into a hike in a Sugar Pine
forest. These majestic trees tower at
great heights, and can grow up to 5000
feet. They produce giant pine cones
which are an important food source for
the squirrels and other small animals
living in the forests of the Sierra
Nevada Mountains.
