On a recent trip to the Scottish Highlands, my husband and I hiked to the lookout at the top of Struie Hill. Bordered by rolling slopes of purple heather and feathery ferns, the rocky path led to a breathtaking view of Dornoch Firth. This scarf reminds me of that wonderful view: the winding path, the purple sides of Struie Hill, and the jewel-like waters of Dornoch Firth, home to salmon, seals, and even dolphins!
This scarf starts and ends with 4 stitches fewer than the repeating pattern calls for to help keep the ends from flaring. The increases and decreases used to accomplish this are worked in the first and last repeats. Otherwise, the body of the scarf consists of only one repeating pattern that is bordered by garter stitch on either side. Instructions for changing colors and carrying colors up the side or back are included in the pattern notes.
