Named after my beret-wearing mother, Rubi has a lovely, classic shape. It’s crocheted from the top in worsted-weight yarn in spiral half double crochet (U.K. half treble), and a narrow welt band provides an elegant finish.
The Rubi hat can be worn as a traditional beret, with a drape to one side, or pulled down into a slouchy, with overall fullness in the crown.

NOTE: The bottom band of the hat has 2 in./5 cm of negative ease to provide a snug, but not tight, fit.
