The more I knit, the more I like garter stitch- and I couldn't stop knitting these! To show off the texture, these mitts have garter ridges horizontally, vertically and diagonally. They take only one 50g skein of DK-weight yarn for most hand sizes and are simple to make, with only the short row thumb giving a bit of a challenge. This pattern is written such that the mitts can be made with any DK to chunky weight yarn and to fit any hand size.

The main part of the mitt is knit flat to wrap around the hand, and joined with Kitchener stitch. This means it can be knit as long as needed to wrap around the hand before joining the CO and BO edges to form the tube. The thumb is worked with short rows. The cuffs at the fingers, wrist and thumb are picked up and worked in the round. As they are meant to be snug and warm, knit them with a needle slightly smaller than recommended for your yarn, and make them with about a 10% negative ease over the width of the hand.
