Scan the surface of any pond in England, and you are bound to spot the iridescent green head of a mallard duck. The Deep Sea colorway of Manos reminded me of that unmistakable, happy head bobbing in and out of the water in the spring. Worked from the bottom up with gentle shaping to follow body contour, the cowl splits at the lower end to prevent it from riding up and is finished with a perpendicular band at the top.

- Finished circumference 17¼ (19¾) in / 44 (50) cm at the top; finished height 5½ (6) in / 14 (15) cm at the narrowest point. Shown in size 17¼ in.
- MATERIALS AND NOTIONS 1 skein of Manos del Uruguay Wool Clasica (100% wool; 138yds/126m per 100g skein); # 7325 Deep Sea. US #9 (5.5mm) short circular needle. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain correct gauge. Stitch markers; yarn needle.
