“Faroenacci" is a combination of two things I really love, Faroese shawls and the Fibonacci numerical sequence. Faroese shawls have shaping in the shoulders, which allows the shawl to hug the wearer’s shoulders and prevents it from falling off. Traditional Faroese shawls can also make lovely blank canvases onto which knitters can add their own designs. This Faroese shawlette is knitted from the neck down which is a variation on the traditional bottom up construction.

The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers that looks like this: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21… Each number in the series comes from adding the two numbers before it: 0+1=1, 1+1=2, 1+2=3, 2+3=5, and so on. A nice stripe effect can be made if you space your stripes according to the sequence. I thought it would be fun to combine the Fibonacci sequence with my favorite traditional shawl.

Yarn: 2 skeins of Elsebeth Lavold’s Silky Wool (mc) and 1 skien of Noro’s Kirara (cc). If you substitute a dk weig
