When you're baking in a new oven, it always takes a while to get used to it! Your sponge cake might have been perfect in 20 minutes in your gas oven, but dry and crumbly in the same time when using a fan oven. Throw in the added confusion of converting oven temperatures, and it can all feel a little overwhelming. This oven temperature conversion chart will help get you off to a good start!

Gas mark Celsius (°C) Fahrenheit (°F)
1 140°C 275°F
2 150°C 300°F
3 175°C 325°F
4 180°C 350°F
5 190°C 375°F
6 200°C 400°F
7 220°C 425°F
8 230°C 450°F

Pro Tip

Use an oven thermometer to check the temperature of your oven – most of the time they are off by 10-15 degrees!

Liquid conversion chart

When it comes to baking, recipes tend to switch between millilitres, pints and cups depending on which book you're reading – this chart will help you make sense of it!

125ml ½ cup
150ml ¼ pint
200ml
250ml 1 cup
275ml ½ pint
300ml

Teaspoon conversion chart

When a recipe calls for a teaspoon or tablespoon, it can start to get a little confusing! Spoons vary in size, but when you use the ml equivalent you can be more accurate when baking.

Millilitre (ml) Teaspoon/tablespoon (tsp/tbsp)
1.25ml ¼ tsp
2.5ml ½ tsp
5ml 1 tsp
10ml 2 tsp
15ml 1 tbsp
30ml 2 tbsp

Cups conversion chart

Cups to grams will differ depending on the ingredient you’re measuring, due to the weight of the ingredients not all being the same. To make sure the ratios are right, we recommend sticking to one form of measurement throughout your whole recipe - using either cups or grams - to keep it consistent. The end result might be slightly bigger or smaller, but it will still taste delicious!

Caster sugar 225g 8oz
Brown sugar 170g 6oz
