This pattern is written for 4-ply sock yarn or a comparable fingering weight yarn (400m/100g), and it is worked using double-pointed needles. You can lengthen the mitts by knitting more rounds before and after the thumb increases. Please note that you will need more yarn if you decide to lengthen them.

There are three options for the thumb: you can knit a half thumb or a thumb hole. If you don’t feel confident with that yet, you can simply skip making a thumb opening. This is a good option for children's wrist warmers, in case working the small thumb feels a bit too fiddly.
