This quick knit beanie has a beautiful and fun slip stitch pattern that was featured in our Miette Shawl and we have a tutorial for that stitch on our you tube channel... information for that can be found in the pattern.
You will need size 3.75mm (US5) and 4.5mm (US7) for knitting in the round

Miette Hat by Cozy Up Knits
What Is Being Made
The Miette Hat is a beginner-friendly knitted hat designed by Cozy Up Knits. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a finished hat with a circumference of 16 inches (41cm) and a length of 8.5 inches (22cm), suitable for a head circumference of 20-22 inches. The design is versatile—knitters can easily customize the fit by adding extra ribbing and pattern repeats before the decreases to create a longer, slouchy version if desired.
Techniques Used
The Miette Hat employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for beginners. The hat is constructed knitting in the round, which creates a seamless, tubular fabric ideal for hat construction. The pattern incorporates several key techniques including make 1 increases (m1) for shaping, slip, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over decreases (sk2po) for crown shaping, and slip stitches with yarn in front (sl5wyif) for textural detail. The pattern also features a specialized stitch called k1 under, which involves pulling up a previously made strand from underneath and knitting it together with the next stitch—a technique that creates interesting visual effects and is explained in detail in the Cozy Up Knits YouTube Channel tutorial for the Miette Shawl.
Stitches Used
- Knit (k): The fundamental stitch forming the main fabric
- Purl (p): Used in ribbing sections for texture and elasticity
- Make 1 (m1): An increase stitch for shaping the hat
- Slip, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over (sk2po): A centered double decrease used for crown shaping
- Slip stitches with yarn in front (sl5wyif): A slip stitch variation that creates decorative texture while keeping yarn positioned at the front of the work
- K1 under: A specialty stitch that pulls up a strand from a previous row and knits it together with the current stitch, creating dimensional detail
- Stockinette stitch in the round: The primary fabric structure, created by knitting every round
Materials and Tools
The Miette Hat requires 60 grams of DK weight yarn, which equals approximately 150 yards—a modest yardage suitable for a hat project. Two needle sizes are needed for this pattern: Size 3.75mm (US5) needles and 4.5mm (US7) needles, both configured for knitting in the round. The pattern specifies a gauge of 21 stitches and 27 rows in 4 inches (10cm) in blocked stockinette stitch on the larger needles, which helps ensure the finished hat achieves the intended measurements. When working the sl5wyif stitch detail, knitters should keep the yarn loose in the front of the work to maintain proper tension and appearance.
