Mummy Voodoo Doll and Key Ring Knitting Pattern by Phoenixknits
What Is Being Made
This downloadable knitting pattern from designer Phoenixknits includes instructions for creating two coordinated projects: a large voodoo doll standing 8 inches high and a smaller key ring accessory measuring 3 inches high. Both pieces are designed as beginner-friendly knitted toys that can be completed with minimal yardage.
Yarn and Materials
The pattern calls for DK weight yarn in multiple colors of your choice for the main voodoo doll body. Black DK or equivalent yarn is required for winding details around the finished pieces. The main doll requires less than 50 grams of yarn, while the key ring uses less than 10 grams, making this an economical project ideal for using up yarn scraps.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for beginners. Key techniques include:
- Inc1 (Increase 1): Created by knitting into both the front and back of the same stitch to create a new stitch. The pattern specifically notes that using alternative increase methods will result in incorrect stitch counts, so this method must be followed precisely.
- Tog (Together): Knitting or purling multiple stitches together as one to decrease stitch count as directed in the pattern instructions.
- Mattress Stitch: The recommended seaming method for joining pieces together during the making up phase, creating an invisible and professional-looking finish.
Gauge and Construction Notes
The pattern specifies a working tension of 7 stitches and 11 rows to the inch when using DK weight yarn, though the designer notes that tension is not critically important for this toy project. The straightforward construction makes this suitable for knitters new to toy making.
