Little Rabbit Crochet Pattern by Kerri's Crochet
What is Being Made
The Little Rabbit is an amigurumi-style crochet toy designed as a three-dimensional stuffed animal. This intermediate-level crochet project creates a decorative rabbit figure suitable for display, gifting, or play. The pattern uses a combination of basic and intermediate crochet techniques to construct a finished piece with distinct body parts including a head, body, ears, and limbs.
Crochet Techniques Used
This pattern employs several fundamental crochet construction methods. The project begins with a magic loop (also called magic ring), a technique that creates a closed circular foundation without leaving a hole in the center. The pattern incorporates increases (working multiple stitches into a single stitch) to expand the fabric and create three-dimensional shaping. Slip stitches are used to join rounds seamlessly, and the piece is assembled using sewing techniques with thread and needle to attach separate components together. This modular construction approach is typical of amigurumi patterns, where individual pieces are crocheted separately and then sewn into place.
Stitches Used
The Little Rabbit pattern utilizes a range of crochet stitches that progress in height and complexity:
- Chain stitch (ch) — the foundation stitch used to begin rows and create turning chains
- Slip stitch (sl st) — used to join rounds and create seamless connections
- Double crochet (dc) — a shorter stitch providing structure and density
- Half treble crochet (htr) — a medium-height stitch used for shaping and transitions
- Treble crochet (tr) — a taller stitch that appears frequently throughout the pattern for creating volume
- Double treble crochet (dtr) — the tallest stitch in the pattern, used strategically for specific shaping areas
The variation in stitch heights creates the three-dimensional contours necessary for the rabbit's body structure.
Materials Required
The Little Rabbit pattern calls for 4-ply yarn in multiple colors to create visual interest and detail. Specific yarn colors needed include a main color for the body, plus contrast colors: black, white, pink, and an additional color designated for the eyes. The pattern accommodates both cotton and wool yarn options, allowing crafters flexibility based on preference and desired finished texture.
Essential tools and notions include a crochet hook appropriately sized for 4-ply yarn, scissors for cutting yarn, sewing thread and a sewing needle for assembling the pieces, a darning needle for weaving in loose ends, and black cotton thread for embroidering details such as the mouth. These materials enable both the crochet construction and the finishing details that bring the rabbit to life.
Pattern Format and Difficulty
The Little Rabbit is presented as a downloadable PDF from independent designer Kerri's Crochet. The pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to work with multiple stitch types, shaping techniques, and assembly methods. The pattern includes a video tutorial option for those who prefer visual instruction alongside written directions.
