Flumppet Knitted Toy by Phoenixknits
What Is Being Made
The Flumppet is a fun, textured knitted toy designed by Phoenixknits. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a plush stuffed figure standing approximately 14 inches high, featuring a combination of fun fur and DK yarn for contrasting texture and visual interest.
Project Overview
This downloadable PDF pattern guides knitters through creating a complete toy with integrated legs and body constructed as a single piece. The design incorporates safety features including plastic toy eyes and a triangular plastic nose, making it a finished decorative or play toy suitable for display or gifting.
Knitting Techniques Used
The Flumppet employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate crafters. Key methods include:
- Casting on stitches to establish the foundation
- Working in knit and purl stitches to create texture variation
- Managing yarn changes between different yarn weights and types
- Right-side and wrong-side awareness, particularly when transitioning between fun fur and DK yarns
- Shaping through stitch manipulation to form the toy's structure
- Stuffing and finishing techniques using fibrefill
Stitches Featured
The pattern utilizes knit and purl stitches as the primary stitch techniques. An important design consideration is that the right side of fun fur knitting appears as the purl side, requiring knitters to pay careful attention to stitch orientation when changing between yarn types to maintain the intended appearance.
