Product Description
This download will give you two patterns. One for a large floppy Bunny and another for a large floppy Cat. The pattern is written in my favouite method, all in one using continuous rounds from the feet up. I have also provided a pattern for a giant carrot for the Bunny and a fish for the Cat. I had such fun making these that I ended up making six using different colour combinations. You can even make the cats stripy if you you want by alternating two colours every couple of rows. Enjoy and have fun.
Big Floppy Bunny and Cat Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
The Big Floppy Bunny and Cat is a pair of crochet toys designed by Alison Livesey. These are soft, plush decorative pieces and playthings featuring two distinct animal characters—a bunny and a cat—each with characteristic floppy elements that give them their distinctive appearance and charm.
Craft and Primary Technique
This is a crochet project, making it ideal for crafters who work with a crochet hook rather than knitting needles. The pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, meaning it requires foundational crochet knowledge and comfort with standard techniques, but is not designed for complete beginners.
Crochet Stitches and Methods
While the complete stitch breakdown is referenced in the full pattern document, crochet projects of this type typically employ fundamental stitches to create the three-dimensional toy forms. Common techniques in similar amigurumi-style toys include single crochet for tight, structured fabric, increases and decreases for shaping, and slip stitches for joining. The floppy characteristic of these animals suggests the use of looser tension or strategic placement of stitches to create flexible, drooping ears or limbs.
Materials: Yarn and Tools
This pattern accommodates two yarn weight options:
- Aran weight yarn (also called worsted weight in some regions)
- DK weight yarn (double knitting, a lighter option)
The choice between these weights will affect the final size and drape of the finished toys. Crafters will need an appropriately sized crochet hook to match their chosen yarn weight, along with standard finishing supplies such as yarn needle for weaving in ends and stuffing material for creating the soft, plush interior.
