Product Description
I spend a lot of time on my computer. I needed a place to rest my wrist. After looking for them I didn't see any crocheted ones I liked so I designed one.

Wrist Rest by Jessica Phillips
Project Overview
This downloadable crochet pattern provides instructions for creating a functional wrist rest designed to support your wrist while using a computer mouse. The finished piece measures approximately 6 inches in length and is constructed using basic crochet techniques, making it an ideal beginner-friendly project. The wrist rest is worked in a flat rectangular panel that is then folded and seamed to create a three-dimensional cushioned support.
What Is Being Made
A mouse wrist rest is a practical ergonomic accessory that provides cushioning and support for your wrist during extended computer use. This pattern creates a padded rectangular form that can be stuffed for added comfort and durability. The finished wrist rest helps reduce strain and fatigue during typing and mouse work by elevating and supporting the wrist in a neutral position.
Crochet Techniques Used
This pattern employs fundamental crochet construction methods suitable for beginners. The main body is worked in rows using basic stitches, creating a flat rectangular panel. The assembly process involves folding the completed panel in half and joining the edges using single crochet stitches worked evenly across each side. Strategic increases at corners allow the piece to rotate smoothly from short sides to long sides during assembly, creating clean transitions and proper shaping for the three-dimensional form.
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch): The foundation stitch used to create the initial base of 21 chains
- Single Crochet (sc): Used during assembly to join edges and create seams with a tight, secure finish
- Half Double Crochet (hdc): The primary stitch used throughout the body of the wrist rest, worked in rows to build the rectangular panel. The pattern notes that all ch2 (chain 2) is considered a hdc throughout the pattern, serving as the turning chain
Materials Required
This pattern calls for 1 to 2 ounces of worsted weight cotton yarn, making it an economical project that uses minimal yardage. Cotton yarn is an excellent choice for a wrist rest as it provides breathability, durability, and a smooth texture against the skin. A size 4mm (G) crochet hook is used to work the worsted weight yarn at the appropriate gauge. A tapestry needle is needed for weaving in yarn ends and finishing the project. Fiberfill or similar stuffing material is recommended for filling the completed wrist rest to provide cushioning and structure.
Gauge and Finished Dimensions
The gauge is established after row 2, at which point the piece measures approximately 1 inch in height. The main body is worked until it reaches 6 inches in length before assembly begins, ensuring a properly proportioned wrist rest suitable for most users.
