My first quilt
My first quilt, so a simple one for me as a beginner and I love the more contemporary style of quilts. I've enjoyed the learning curve, taking tips from various blogs and YouTube. My partner built me a frame (copied from the Internet) which enabled me to do the free motion quilting myself and that was a very steep learning curve. See the frame in the 3rd pic and my practice piece in 4th pic. There are many mistakes and wobbles in the simple waves I put across the patterned fabrics and thankfully the colours hide them very well.😂😂 George also cut me a "wave" template from plywood and I marked my waves on the fabric with Frixion pen markers. Just a shame I wasn't too accurate at following the lines. Better luck next time!😂 I wanted a lap quilt in bright warm colours and I'm very happy with the result. I'm embracing the mistakes and I love my cosy quilt - finished just in time for the zero temperatures we're now having.

Thanks Christine, I enjoyed the learning curve on this one. Hope to get around to more at some point. These days I seem to waste too much time looking rather than doing - must do better!

@Liz M: The opposite to the weather we’re having here - we’re expecting up to 41 degrees on Friday! I have to turn on the air con so I can knit!

Thanks Tamara, I enjoyed making it and it has come in really handy with all the cold weather we've been having. Lovely and cosy.

Thanks Maria, I enjoy trying out new things, and the quilt is certainly earning its keep with the cold weather and snow we're having.🥰😍

That’s truly amazing Liz. 🤩 I never got into quilting as a sewer, but this is something I might have tried once upon a time. What a clever partner you have in George to make you the frame and template. He must have some clever tools? 👏🏻🥰

Thanks Helen, I enjoyed doing something different and having George's help with the frame and template was great - and money saving into the bargain.😂😂🥰🥰

Thanks Linzi, I normally go for blues and purples, but that would have looked quite cold, the reds and oranges certainly look warm and cosy.💕

Wow! How 'cool' is that Liz? I never thought about making a frame for free motion quilting! (although that's never going to happen with me!) I've made two quilts but neither of them are quite finished hence have never reached my project posting stage! The first, I enjoyed making the top but the quilting took endless turning of bulky fabric in a small bed machine and the 2nd, I took it to a professional quilter......must complete the binding on them!!

Thanks Jane, I'm lucky enough to have a machine with a 12 inch throat, so the free motion quilting is easier with that. George just followed a YouTube video to make my frame, so it wasn't too expensive. Being a "newbie" at quilting I wasn't going to use a professional quilter as they are very expensive for my trial effort. I followed a YouTube video for the binding and it worked a treat, though unlilke the video I machined mine to the front and hand stitched the back. I was dreading turning the corners, but they worked out fine.
