Lovely pattern and headband. I didn't have chunky yarn, but substituted with using two strands of DK yarn. The headband is excellent.
I conceived of this pattern because I wanted to make a special gift for an old friend.
I'm really happy with the result, which is a lovely cabled-textured headband or ear warmer which would look good in solid as well as multi-coloured yarn.
I made mine with handspun from rainbow merino roving, that I n-plied to make a lovely Aran/Bulky weight yarn. However, any commercial or handspun yarn of that weight would be good for this project.
Gauge or tension isn't really all that important, so just gather your materials and get started.
You will need: 1 x 100g ball of Aran/Bulky yarn (the softer the better) 1 x pair of 5mm knitting needles 1 x 5mm cabling needle (or any spare 5mm DPN) 1 x tapestry needle
This knits up in just a few hours, so put the kettle on and enjoy :)
The Womb Wisdom Headband is a versatile head and ear warmer designed to provide extra warmth during winter months. This one-size-fits-all knitted accessory is suitable for women, men, and children, and can be worn comfortably whether hair is worn up or down. The design offers practical functionality while maintaining an attractive appearance suitable for regular winter wear.
This beginner-friendly knitting pattern incorporates cable knitting techniques to create visual interest and texture. The primary stitch techniques include:
The cable work adds both visual appeal and structural integrity to the headband, making it an excellent beginner project for learning cable techniques while creating a practical, wearable garment.
A key feature of this pattern is its flexibility in sizing. Gauge is not critical to the success of this project, as the headband is designed to be customized to fit any head size from child to adult. This makes it an exceptionally accessible pattern for knitters of varying experience levels and allows for adjustments based on individual preference.
Knitting Needles: Size 5mm (US 8) knitting needles are required for this project.
Additional Tools: One cable needle is needed to work the cable stitches, and a tapestry needle is essential for weaving in yarn ends upon completion.
Yarn: The pattern calls for Aran to Bulky weight yarn. The designer used Rainbow Merino handspun yarn for the original project. For optimal comfort against the skin, a very soft yarn is recommended, with 100% Merino wool being highlighted as an ideal fiber choice. The softness of the yarn is particularly important given that this accessory sits close to the head and ears.
This pattern is classified as beginner-friendly, making it an excellent choice for knitters new to cable work or those looking to develop their fundamental knitting skills while creating a practical, finished garment.

The pattern looks fine and of course it was a download. No wool though!
